Keeping Test Equipment Accurate, Controlled and Audit-Ready

Calibration of test instruments is a core requirement across industry schemes such as BAFE, NSI and SSAIB, as well as management systems including ISO 9001.

Accurate, repeatable readings are essential - not just for compliance, but for safe working and confidence on site.

Ember Compliance supports organisations with both:

  • in-house calibration services
  • training to manage and carry out calibration internally

Why Calibration Matters

Test instruments are relied upon daily by engineers, but without proper calibration and control:

  • readings can drift over time
  • results may become inconsistent between engineers
  • safe isolation procedures can be compromised
  • audit evidence may be insufficient

Calibration is the foundation of consistent engineering standards and compliance.

In-House Calibration Services

We offer a practical calibration service designed for fire & security businesses.

  • Calibration of commonly used test instruments
  • Clear, structured records for audit purposes
  • Support with maintaining calibration logs and control systems
  • Optional replacement of components (e.g. leads, fuses) where required

Our focus is on keeping your equipment accurate, controlled, and ready for inspection.

Annual Safe Isolation & Calibration Day (On-Site)

For a streamlined approach, we offer a combined on-site service :

  • Safe Isolation Training (half day) - up to 8 learners
  • Meter Calibration - up to 3 meters per engineer (max 25 per day)
  • £1,250 + VAT (day rate)

This approach reduces disruption while ensuring both:

engineer competence

equipment accuracy

In-House Calibration Training

For organisations looking to manage calibration internally, we provide a dedicated training course:

  • Test Instrument In-House Calibration

This course covers both the theory and practical application of calibration using externally verified master instruments aligned to national standards.

Learners will gain understanding of:

  • Principles of calibration
  • External vs master/in-house calibration
  • Methods of calibration across different instruments
  • Documentation and record keeping
  • Developing and maintaining a calibration plan

Practical elements include:

  • Calibration exercises across common instruments (e.g. DMM, IR, SPL)
  • Documentation exercises
  • Real-world application of calibration processes

On completion, learners will be able to:

  • control and manage calibration systems
  • carry out in-house calibration activities
  • maintain compliant records for audits

Who This Is For

  • Fire & security companies managing engineering teams
  • Quality managers and compliance leads
  • Businesses working under BAFE, NSI, SSAIB or ISO frameworks
  • Organisations looking to bring calibration in-house

Supporting Your Wider Compliance

Calibration is one part of a wider compliance picture. It works alongside:

  • Safe Isolation training
  • Technical auditing
  • Quality Management Systems
  • Engineer competence development

Together, these ensure your business is operating safely, consistently and in line with industry expectations.
